As a coach, understanding how important it is to adjust the weight being used for each athlete to maximize recovery and adaptation to stress, and to improve the rate at which an athlete can produce force (power), is crucial for optimizing development of athletes of all levels. Vitruve VBT (Velocity Based Training) has created a great little training tool that attaches to a bar and measures bar speed and velocity, to more effectively program for max power. With connectivity to your phone or iPad, it is simple to use and monitor each set, each rep, and each training session. This ingenious product has allowed us to train our clients, and train ourselves just about anywhere we can fasten the unit to. There are options to purchase rack specific attachment bases for the unit, or wall attachment pieces, or simply the super tough velcro attachment that keeps it super versatile and ultra portable. We've attached this to baseball field fences, trees, fence posts, racks, glute/ham developers--and it works as long as you can find a stable, sturdy (nothing loose or anything that might break) support, you can use it. We've been able to use a variety of attachments that we would normally use on any cable machine, and they work great. With the additional straight bar, we've added a lot of rotational exercises for hockey and lacrosse. We've been able to add a lot of extra resistance, and have been using a few of these daily, with pretty heavy usage, and they are holding up great. Over the last 25 years, programming options have evolved from pen and paper, whiteboard, and microsoft excel, to the large number of apps or software templates available today. As our team of coaches has experience using a large number of the new apps and team training softwares available on the market today, we have learned that they all have their own unique way of providing what the end user wants, and different ways of creating the programs for the coaches and trainers. Pricing varies, so this is an area where I suggest that coaches speak with several different companies to get a feel for what everyone offers, and at what price, and make sure the product fits their coaching needs.
